With most major events, the heroes come from many places, especially from among those most ordinary until they become heroes. This was the case with the famous
ride of Jack Jouette. He was working hard at being inebriated when the future of his country fell to him. It is most likely that Thomas Jefferson and the other Colonial
leaders would have become history at the hands of the British Dragoon’s if J.J hadn’t taken the ride of his life to warn them. Those that put pleasure before duty to their country (by staying at Swain’s Tavern before fleeing the British Dragoons)  spent the
​rest of the war in a brig of a British warship.
